Beyonce Glastonbury Gig Confirmed

Following in the musical footsteps of Stevie Wonder and her own husband Jay-Z, pop diva Beyonce has been tapped to perform at this year’s Glastonbury Festival in the UK.

Speculation started earlier this week that the “Crazy In Love” hitmaker would be one of the big acts to play to thousands of music fans at the annual event after her pal Chris Martin’s band Coldplay announced its slot at the fest. Beyonce confirmed the news herself early Friday. Organizers say she’ll serve as the annual event’s closing act, performing a lively 90-minute set on the main Pyramid Stage to round off this summer’s event on Sunday, June 26.

“This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend,” the singer said. “I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”

In 2008, the “Sasha Fierce” star joined about 140,000 music fans to watch her husband Jay-Z headline the festival in Somerset, England. The Grammy-winning hip-hopster thrilled concertgoers following huge criticism over a rap act being tapped to headline the traditionally rock-oriented event.

The outdoor festival, one of the largest and best-known of its kind, celebrated its 40th anniversary last year. Tickets for this year’s event — which kicks off June 24 — have already have sold out.
