When Jeff Daniels told MTV News that "Dumb and Dumber To," the sequel to his 1994 comedy, would never happen without Jim Carrey, we feared that it may mean the end for the project. Carrey abruptly left the follow-up this week due to disputes with New Line and Warner Bros.
Carrey left "Dumb and Dumber To" when he grew angry that the studios did not share his enthusiasm for the sequel to the Farrelly Brothers film that helped launch his career in the early 90s.
But when Jeff Daniels appears in the "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson," he indicated that the sequel is not quite dead yet.

Daniels explained to Ferguson that Carrey's people are currently working on rectifying the situation in a very scary-sounding way. "Well, Jim's upset. He's got a pretty good reason to be, so my hope is that it will [happen]," he said. "There's a list of names, and he's got his people working on them one-by-one. That's all I'm going to say. He wants to do it. The Farrelly's want to do it. I want to do it. I think America needs it."
The actor seems enthusiastic about the idea of a sequel and shared some memories from the original. "We haven't had a God's honest dumbing down of America in a long time. When we came out with 'Dumb and Dumber,' I remember reading in the New York Times, 'The Dumbing Down of America.' We were blamed for so much. It's probably time for that again," he said.
